Israeli actress Gal Gadot, who plays Wonder Woman in the upcoming “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” will star as Esther in the remake of the classic film “Ben Hur.” The original, which starred Charlton Heston in the title role and won 11 Oscars, was based on a Lew Wallace novel about a Hebrew prince who is betrayed, sold into slavery and is given his freedom following a suspenseful chariot race. Gadot will play Ben Hur’s love interest, Esther. Jack Huston will play Ben Hur, and Morgan Freeman will star Ben Hur’s chariot racing coach, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Filming will begin in Europe and is scheduled to be released in 2016 by Paramount and MGM.
