Sir Martin Sorrell Asked Not To Attend Iran Trade Event

The Davos World Economic Forum 2014

Sir Martin Sorrell, Jewish CEO of WPP group as asked by Pro-Israel groups not to attend a Europe-Iran Forum, as the trade opportunities discussed at the conference might line the pockets of a regime that has pledged war with Israel.

The Zionist Federation, Israeli Forum TaskForce, Stand for Peace and UKFol (United Kingdom Friends of Israel) issued a statement to Sorrell, according to Jewish News online, discouraging him from going to Iran to discuss post-sanctions trade opportunities; “As members of Jewish and Israeli organizations, we were surprised you would lend your name to such an event. We also wonder why you would speak of trade with one of the world’s most violent and theocratic regimes, with a long history of anti-Semitism, that does not hide its anti-Israel sentiments.”

While currently there are sanctions against Iran, the aim of the conference is to discuss initiatives be dropped. This might seem like a carrot to get Iran to retreat from extremist rhetoric, but many fear such support will only empower Iran’s nuclear program and its extremist politics, including its many  human rights violations. Board Vice President Alex Brummer said, “The world must watch very carefully that there is no backsliding towards an Iranian nuclear capability.”

Well the world seems to be pretty vigilant now, given that such a conference is even taking place.
