Paltrow Is 42, But Does She Understand Life, the Universe, and Everything?

"Contagion" Photocall - 68th Venice Film Festival

As you probably already know, the number 42 is the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything, at least if you’re a fan of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. So that when one reaches this age, many things are revealed to them. Or not. It’s not an exact science.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s 42nd birthday was last Friday, and, according to wet paint, she “kept things small and intimate instead of going all out on a birthday bash.”

According to Perez Hilton, she celebrated at the AOC Wine Bar and Restaurant in Los Angeles, in the company of Ryan Murphy, Cameron Diaz, Tracy Anderson, and “twelve other people.”

It’s kind of insulting, isn’t it, to be known as merely one of “12 other people, ” when the likes of Cameron Diaz get name billings.

OK, here’s more from Wet Paint: they dined on small plates, piled high with sweet corn, avocado, rajas, queso fresco salad, grilled peaches with ricotta and pistachio aillade, farro and black rice, currants, a pine nuts dish, spanish fried chicken, and the market fish.

Does this mean that the above course offers the secrets of life, the universe, and everything? Does it mean that Paltrow’s newly discovered Jewish faith does not include observing the second day of Rosh Hashanah? Does it mean that famous people who decide to have a small, intimate birthday should be left alone?

The latter, obviously. Happy birthday.
