When Apartheid ended in South Africa, Nelson Mandela and Bishop Desmond Tutu held truth and reconciliation hearings, requiring a full disclosure from those who committed racist crimes, honesty was rewarded with amnesty.
With her Presidential bid coming closer, the former Senator and Secretary of State will be faced with questions about her husband, former President Bill Clinton’s infamous affair with the White House intern.
“It doesn’t mean you forget. It’s truth and reconciliation. You have to be honest. You have to face the truth about whatever your situation, personally or nationally, might be. But Mandela made the point that if you carried bitterness and anger with you, you would remain in prison. You would, in fact, be imprisoning yourself because you can’t get beyond what happened to you.”
