The Weinstein Company has acquired the rights to the BBCs TV movie adaption of Roald Dahl’s book, Esio Trot. The movie starred Dustin Hoffman as a man head over heels with his neighbor, played by Judi Dench, who prefers to spend time with her pet turtle than with her admirer next door.

Financial details were not disclosed in the deal. Weinstein Co. is expanding its TV assets and might consider a spin-off. The company owns all non-theatrical rights to the film. The adaption was written by Richard Curtis, who wrote the screenplay for Four Weddings and a Funeral and Paul Mayhew Archer.

Harvey Weinstein said, “Roald Dahl is one of the most revered children’s authors in history, so needless to say, we are delighted to be on board with this project. Dustin Hoffman and Judi Dench do a wonderful job embodying his beloved, one-of-a-kind characters.”
