Cohen informed the chairman in a secret meeting in Ramallah regarding the arrest of Hamas operatives who had planned to topple his Fatah government.

Israel Radio cited Palestinian sources which confirmed the reports in the Arab media about a meeting between Abbas and Cohen taking place.
According to Al-Akhbar, when Abbas met in Doha, Qatar, with Hamas political bureau chief Khaled Mashaal more than a week ago, just before the Gaza cease-fire, he complained bitterly to the Qatari leader Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani about the Hamas plot. The report suggests that Abbas’ complaints were the subject of most of the meeting, with little time left for a discussion of things in Gaza.
According to a Shin Bet report, last month Hamas was deadly terrorist attacks in Israel and the West Bank, in an attempt to destabilize the region and topple the Palestinian Authority.
The Jerusalem Post reported that the Shin Bet captured and indicted Hamas’s West Bank leader, as well as dozens of his operatives, on August 7.
The Shin Bet reports the plot was orchestrated by overseas Hamas officials in Turkey, and was centered on generating several of mass-casualty attacks on Israeli civilians.
