Back in July, while American Apparel founder and former CEO Dov Charney was still under investigation for sexual misconduct, the company hired him as a “strategic consultant.”
Now, American Apparel is under attack for its new, “abhorrent” advertising campaign featuring provocative images of models posing as schoolgirls, the Daily Mail, that bastion of British good taste and chastity is reporting.

So, now, at least in the UK, the American Apparel “Back to School” soft porn images, which were posted on their UK Instagram account, has been removed, along with some images on their website.
Fact is, before they rehired Charney, the Apparel website was becoming so tame, it started to look like JC Penny’s. And nobody wants that. Let’s face it, people don’t go shopping at American Apparel, they’re lured there, seduced, even. And say what you will about Dov Charney, he knows seduction.
It’s actually borderline porn. So much so, that on Wednesday, a British children’s charity called the advertising disgraceful and asked parents to stop their children from buying the items.
That always works, you know.
Peter Bradley, from Kidscape, said: ‘It’s something we find abhorrent. It’s about using underage pornography to sell products and the sexualization of children, which cannot ever be justified.”
Bradley pointed out that Apparel’s “A School Days” campaign is aimed at children under the age of 16, which has to be upsetting to some parents.
“Would the company’s board members let their daughters wear these miniskirts?” he wondered, and added, “I would like to see parents not allow their daughters to buy such clothes.”
Good question. But, of course, those mini skirts are keeping the board member’s daughters in their cushy trust funds, so that might influence their thinking. Because Charney’s gift is in convincing little girls that looking like whores is attractive. And they seem to be buying it.
