We loved him in the 1980’s as the revenge-seeking, ever-quoted Spanish fencer Inigo Montoya in “The Princess Bride”; we were entertained by him in the 1990’s when he was head-grim-reaper Rube in Bryan Fuller’s Showtime fantasy series “Dead Like Me”; and we are mesmerized by his performance as the complicated but menschy CIA Middle East hand Saul Berenson in “Homeland” (yes, we still are, even after the show has pretty much lost its way).
This is Patinkin’s second consecutive nomination in the Supporting Actor in a Drama category for his role in the award winning Showtime espionage thriller series. He previously won an Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series Emmy award for his role in “Chicago Hope, ” and was nominated for an Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series award for playing himself on “The Larry Sanders Show.”
Biggest competition: two-time winner Aaron Paul. With “Breaking Bad” wrapping up, voters may choose to mark the occasion with an abundance of awards for the acclaimed show, including a third win for Paul.
