The star of films such as “Mean Girls” and “Cloverfield” and the hilarious short-lived comedy-TV series “Party Down, ” Lizzy Caplan has just been graced with her first ever Emmy nomination – as Lead Actress in a Drama – for her portrayal of sex researcher Virginia Johnson in Showtime’s critically-acclaimed “Masters of Sex.” And what a well-deserved nomination it is. She, however, says she did not expect it.
“I am completely shocked by this news, ” Caplan told The New York Times following the announcement. “I have been home sick for the past couple days, and we’re in production now, so I’ve had time to think about this, and I don’t like having time to think about this. I just came to terms with the fact that it’s probably not going to happen this year, and that’s O.K. Who cares? There are bigger things to worry about in the world. Then I went to sleep and my friends called me in the morning. I am totally flabbergasted.”
