Sean Penn and Charlize Theron are reportedly getting very serious about their relationship. The 53 year-old actor, who allegedly got rid of his guns earlier this year per the request of his 38 year-old girlfriend, is ready to make an even bigger commitment to prove his love to the “Monster” star actress. According to sources, a marriage proposal is well under way.
“They absolutely want to get married, ” a Penn confidant told Us Weekly. “They want to grow their family”, another source added.
Academy Award winners Penn and Theron have been seemingly inseparable these last eight months. While looking very much in love at the Met Gala and at the L.A. film premiere for Theron’s “A Million Ways to Die” this month, the actress admits the couple’s romantic entanglement wasn’t an obvious one.
“Sean and I have known each other for 18 years. We were just really good friends. And it’s been slow going because you are aware that you could screw that up and lose it, ” she said in the June issue of Vogue. “We had to think about it. But at the end of the day, it was somewhat effortless.”

Theron, who has an adopted son, and Penn, who shares two children with his second ex-wife, actress Robin Wright, fueled romance rumors late last year when they were photographed vacationing together in Hawaii in the days leading up to New Year’s Eve. They were later spotted “making out like crazy” at a post-Oscar party, and “rigorously making out” at the Standard Hotel’s Boom Boom Room after the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala.
The couple’s relationship appeared to be heating up lately, with Theron including Penn on family days out and dinner dates with her two-year-old son Jackson, and with the usually tight-lipped actress opening up about their relationship in the media. “I am very happy, I will say that”, she told Extra when asked about Penn at the premiere of “A Million Ways to Die”. “I’m not very good at talking about my private life, but we are very happy, yes.”
The couple will also be working together soon, as Penn is set to direct Theron in the drama “The Last Face”, alongside Javier Bardem and Adèle Exarchopoulos.
Prior to his 14-year marriage to Wright, Penn was married to singer/actress Madonna for four years. If the couple does head to the altar (or the chupah), this would be Theron’s first marriage.

In 1983, Penn appeared as Mick O’Brien, a troubled youth, in the drama “Bad Boys”. The role earned Penn favorable reviews and jump-started his career as a serious actor.
