The brief video, released by The Voice Israel, sees the 25-year-old vocalist delivering a soulful rendition of Swedish singer-songwriter Lykke Li’s “I Follow Rivers, ” ending suspensefully mid-song with none of the four coaches reaching for the button.

It appears Israel Channel 2’s Reshet Broadcasting is wisely betting that Katz’s backstory and Spielberg relation will drive up interest and timed the release of the teaser just ahead of The Voice Israel’s Season Three debut on Sunday, June eighth. The local version of The Voice has proved very popular with Israeli audiences, the 2013 finale grabbed a 55.8 percent household share that totals over 1.1 million viewers.

Jessica was named after the cartoon character Jessica Rabbit from the Spielberg produced movie “Who Framed Roger Rabbit, ” which would not be very interesting if she wasn’t born the year the film was released and Spielberg wasn’t her uncle. In fact, since making Aliyah three years ago, Jessica has been entertaining Tel Aviv audiences with her act “Jessica Rabbit and the Blues Bunnies” occasionally dressing in character.

Jessica is proud to be named after Jessica Rabbit, growing up her room was decorated with posters of the animated personality. Jessica performs mainly at the Jessica Restro Bar across from the beach in central Tel Aviv. Not long after coming to Israel, while strolling along the beach-side promenade, she happened upon the bar-restaurant coincidentally named “Jessica.” Displaying chutzpah any Sabra would be proud of, she went in, told her story, and asked to sing there. How could they turn her down with a fantastic tale like her’s?
Jessica graduated from the University of Maryland and is the daughter of Steven Spielberg’s sister Nancy, and Shimon Katz. Nancy Spielberg is a producer and runs Playmount Productions which was started by the Spielberg sibling’s father Arnold in 1962. Playmount is about to release “Above and Beyond, ” a full length documentary film about the founding of the Israeli Air Force.
