Israeli Satellite Networking Technology Gilat Awarded $30 Million Project By Peru’s Fitel

Project Includes Deployment and Operation of Microwave Infrastructure and Wireless Service to 70 Communities Along the Most Remote Section of the Amazonas River in Peru. The contract for the project is expected to be signed shortly

Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. (Nasdaq:GILT), a provider of products and services for satellite-based broadband communications, had been awarded a project valued at $30 million as part of the Integration Amazonica Loreto initiative. The contract for the project is expected to be signed shortly.

The majority of the award is for the design, setup and implementation of the network, which is expected to be executed within the first year. The remainder is for the operation and maintenance of the network for a period of ten years.

In this project, Gilat will implement a high-capacity broadband network between Iquitos and the town of Isla Santa Rosa, to enable internet and telephony services for the inhabitants in 70 communities in the Loreto region.

Gilat also provides managed network and satellite-based services for rural telephony and Internet access via its subsidiaries in Peru and Colombia.
