Matt Zoller Seitz, the New York City based film and television critic, author, and filmmaker has  revealed  that the subject of his  next book  will be none other than the high powered film director Oliver Stone the recipient of three Academy Awards for his films Midnight Express, Platoon and Born on the Fourth of July.

Seitz whose principal activities are as the editor-in-chief at rogerebert.com, as well as acting as  a television critic for the  New York Magazine, wowed the critics in 2013 with his book on the life of  American film director and screenwriter Wes Anderson “The Wes Anderson Collection“, published by Abrams Books, now intends to follow  up that success with  “The Oliver Stone Experience.”

On the basis that you should  never change a winning team or format, Matt will be using the same formula as he did with Wes Anderson, providing what will be retrospective insights  into  Stone’s life and career, from his childhood in New York, his  service in the US Army in  Vietnam to his entry into the world of film making, and his success as a politically aware  and stylistically radical filmmaker.

Work on the  biography is reportedly well under way, with  Zoller Seitz having  started interviewing Stone for the book last year It will feature critical essays about Stone’s work, including his major film works, a long list that includes not only his Oscar winners, but also  Scarface, Salvador,  The Doors, JFK, Natural Born Killers, Nixon as well as the recently completed documentary series The Untold History of the United States.

The Oliver Stone Experience is due to be published some time  in 2015.

Matt has some film experience of his own, have both written the screen play, as well as direct and even edit “ Home” a feature film which was released in 2005, to considerable critical approval. The film was produced by Jennifer Dawson, Zoller Seitz’s wife, who tragically passed away in 2006 at the age of just 35.

Matt Zoller Seitz began his career as a critic and editor when he founded his  blog “The House Next Door”, which was eventually absorbed by Slant Magazine.   Seitz has gained a reputation  as a pioneer  in the creation of video essays, some of which is featured on the influential Moving Image Source and The L Magazine. Matt was also  the publisher of Press Play, a site for video-based film and television criticism as well as at Salon.com and The Newark Star Ledger, as well as  a film critic for The New York Times.
