Former Citigroup chief Sanford Sandy Weill will be 81 years young this weekend. As a birthday present to himself he is listingh is 6 acre waterfront estate in Greenwich Connecticut for sale for US$14 million. In 2012 he sold a Manhattan penthouse apartment for US$88 million, so he has been cashing in a few chips.
Sotheby’s International Realty will handle the sale of this 16, 500 square foot, 6 bedroom, 9 bathroom property that can overlook Long Island Sound.

Sandy Weill bought it with his wife more than 30 years ago as a site for a family estate. Later he gave it to his son Marc who built the enormous stone and shingle mansion on it. When their son moved back into the city to live his parents bought it back from him in 2008 for US$11 million and now hope to turn a small profit…

Sandy Weill told the Wall Street Journal the house is larger than his own home next door, which is about 8, 500 square feett, “People used to think our house was the gate house for the other one, ” he joked.
Located on Round Hill Road the house was custom designed for Weill the younger, by the careful architect for the rich, Ira Grandberg, and built by the Hobbs Construction Company. With its handcut stone and careful masonry the house won awards from the American Insitute of Architects after it was built in 2004.
