Peter Oppenheimer Announces His Retirement From Apple, Effective From September

Oppenheimer will be leaving his post, which he has  held for the past 10 years, as the computer giant’s  chief financial controller.

Peter Oppenheimer has announced that he will be retiring from his post as chief financial officer at Apple, where he will be  replaced by Luca Maestri, the current vice president of finance and corporate controller.

A spokesperson for Apple announced that the transitional phase between Oppenheimer and Maestri will will get underway in June, allowing sufficient time before Peter Oppenheimer clears his desk sometime in  September.

Peter Oppenheimer, joined  Apple in 1996 and has been with the company ever since, holding down a number of top management posts all of them in the financial departments of the company.

Announcing that Oppenheimer would be retiring from the company, Tim Cook , CEO of Apple, stated that Peter has served as the company’s CFO for the past decade, which marked a period of particular growth where Apple’s annual income increased from $8 billion to $171 billion while the company’s global footprint also expanded dramatically.

Commenting on his decision to hand over the financial reins to Luca Maestri, Oppenheimer mapped out his plans for the future which include taking take some time for himself and his family as well as travelling for pleasure and not for business to some of the interesting parts of the world that he has not managed to visit till now.

What this was sure that some of Peter’s free time will still be sent in the boardroom this time of investment bank Goldman Sachs, where he was recently appointed he was named to the firm’s board of directors

Announcing the appointment , Goldman CEO Lloyd Blankfein admitted that Goldman is looking forward to benefiting Peter Oppenheimer joining the company and enjoying the benefits of his  25 years of broad experience across important industries, which  will add a valuable perspective to our Board of Directors.

Peter Oppenheimer has been pencilled in to become a member of every one of the global investment banking firm’s Audit, Risk, Compensation and Corporate Governance, Nominating and Public Responsibilities committees.

 

Peter Oppenheimer graduated with a Bachelor’s degree with honors from California Polytechnic State University in Agricultural Business later earning his M.B.A. from Santa Clara University again with honors.

Oppenheimer spent the early part of this career with the  international accountancy giant Coopers and Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) where his specialty was in information technology, gaining considerable experience, particularly managing financial systems for clients engaged in the telecommunications and banking industries.

Peter joined Apple Computer in 1996, with his initial role being the company’s financial controller for North and South America. A year later, Oppenheimer was promoted to vice president of the company as well as worldwide Sales controller.
