Israel Finds Hamas Terror Tunnel Under UN Gaza Headquarters

IDF

IDF Forces operating in the Gaza Hamas headquarters (IDF)

The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) revealed that its forces discovered a tunnel shaft near an UNRWA (The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees) school, that led to an underground terrorist tunnel beneath UNRWA’s main headquarters. Israeli forces found electrical infrastructure inside the tunnel connected to UNRWA’s main HQ, suggesting it was supplying the tunnel with electricity—generated by the fuel provided through humanitarian aid.

This news comes just a few weeks after UNWRA finally admitted that its workers in Gaza have been aiding Hamas terrorists and fired “several” for this.

The tunnel was 700 meters long tunnel and 18 meters deep. It contained multiple blast doors and various intelligence assets seized by the forces. Intelligence and documents found confirmed the offices’ use by Hamas terrorists. Large quantities of weapons, including rifles, ammunition, grenades and explosives, were uncovered hidden in the building’s offices.

Israel has shown the world evidence for years about how Hamas and other terror groups hide behind UN facilities. They store weapons and even have their operational centers inside of UN operated schools and medical facilities. This is obviously done with the knowledge of UN workers, but nothing is ever said or done about it.

And then, when Israel is forced to take action against such terrorist bases, it is accused of committing war crimes by the terrorists themselves because they forced the IDF to attack them in schools and hospitals.

Philippe Lazzarini, his head of UNWRA issued a Tweet in which he declared that his organization did not know about the terrorist base located under its headquarters in Gaza and that it was only just “made aware of reports through the media regarding a tunnel under the UNRWA Headquarters in Gaza.”

Lazzarini wants the world to believe that any such tunnel must have been dug only after UNRWA staff left its headquarters in Gaza City on October 12 following the Israeli evacuation order.

“We have not used that compound since we left it nor are we aware of any activity that may have taken place there,’ he said. “We understand, through media reporting, that the Israeli Army has deployed troops within the UNRWA Headquarters in Gaza City. We are therefore unable to confirm or otherwise comment on these reports.”

Lazzarini went on to claim that in times of “no active conflict” UNRWA inspects inside its premises every quarter and that the last inspection for the UNRWA Gaza premises was completed in September 2023. He also stated that UNWRA “does not have the military and security expertise nor the capacity to undertake military inspections of what is or might be under its premises.”

To this, Israel’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) responded, “Oh, you knew. Digging a tunnel takes longer than 4 months.”

“You chose to ignore the facts so you can later try and deny them,” added COGAT.

The UNWRA official Twitter account, however, continues to spew out nothing but complaints about the suffering of locals
