As the end of the year nears, Google has already released its lists of top searches for 2023. “War in Israel and Gaza” was the number one search phrase globally. Interestingly, the three countries where the phrase was most searched for were Kenya, Uganda, and Singapore. Canada was the other country besides Israel in the top five.
According to Goggle’s data, searches about the Iron Swords War in Gaza spiked in the week after the barbaric Hamas massacre committed on October 7, for obvious reasons. They then fell sharply and searches for such information are now negligible, but were enough to lead for the year.

People clearly get bored quickly with a trending topic, even when it is a war.
Google did not reveal any of the links that came out at the top of these searches. But knowing Google, many of the links were probably to websites that accuse Israel of being responsible for the Covid crisis and saying that Jews are building space lasers or something like that.
Interestingly, in America people led their search queries about the war with questions words. “What is Hamas,” “what is happening in Israel,” and “why did Hamas attack” all led the list of searches about the war.
Matthew Perry, who passed away on October led the list of most searched for celebrities who died in 2023, coming in ahead of Tina Turner who died in May.
Science fiction was popular this year as “The Last of Us,” a program about a zombie apocalypse, led the global searches for television shows and it also led in that category in the U.S. too. It was followed by “Wednesday,” a show based on the character from “The Adams Family.”
In the U.S., “Barbenheimer,” a combination of the names of two popular movies “Oppenheimer” and “Barbie” came in at number one.
Also in the U.S., the top four searched for sports venues were all in the New York area: Madison Square Garden (home of the New York Knicks and Rangers and a venues for concerts), MetLife Stadium (home of the NFL’s New York Jets and Giants), Yankee Stadium and the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, home of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets.
Boston’s Fenway Park came in fifth.
