Mila Kunis was born Milena Markovna Kunis in Ukraine when it was still part of the Soviet Union and has taken a stand against the Russian invasion of that country which has lasted for almost 18 months now. In March, Kunis and her actor husband Ashton Kutcher donated $3 million to help the people of Ukraine. The couple pledged to match that much money in a fundraiser that they have launched with a GoFundMe page.
She once spoke about her experiences growing up there. In an interview with the Sun Mila Kunis said, “One of my friends had swastikas painted on her bag and notebooks. This is a country that doesn’t want you as a Jew.” On her parents’ decision to leave when she was just a kid, Kunis said, “My parents wanted us to have a future, and at that time in the Soviet Union there was no future. All we were allowed to take with us was $250. My parents gave up good jobs and their degrees.”
