Oran Avraham CTO Laminar

Laminar Security, an Israeli startup that provides public cloud data security services, was bought out by the American data security company Rubrik. The specifics of the deal have not yet been revealed, but reports indicate that the purchase price could be as much as $250 million.

Rubrik boasted that the combination will create the industry’s “first complete cyber resilience offering of its kind” by bringing together cyber recovery and cyber posture across enterprise, cloud, and SaaS.

Rubrik says that by 2025, the cybercrime business will be worth $10 trillion, making it the third-largest economy in the world. Rubrik helps clients achieve business resilience against cyberattacks, malicious insiders, and operational disruptions.

Founded in 2020, Laminar’s Cloud Data Security Platform protects data for everything you build and run in the cloud across cloud providers and cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake. The platform autonomously and continuously discovers and classifies new datastores for complete visibility, prioritizes risk based on sensitivity and data risk posture, secures data by remediating weak controls and actively monitors for egress and access anomalies. Designed for the multi cloud, the architecture takes an API-only approach, without any agents, and without sensitive data ever leaving your environment.

“Rubrik and Laminar share a common vision that cyber resilience is the next frontier in data security,” Mike Tornincasa, Chief Business Officer, Rubrik. “Laminar’s technology, ability to execute, and vision make it a perfect complement to our strategy and innovative roadmap. Together, our teams will create an integrated offering that gives customers the benefits of cyber recovery and cyber posture capabilities, and positions them to be resilient in their fight against cyberattacks.”

“There is a dark side to digital transformation in the form of shadow data, and more businesses are realizing they can’t protect against what they can’t see—leaving them vulnerable to cyberattacks,” said Amit Shaked, CEO and co-founder of Laminar. “We have found synergy with Rubrik, a company that cares just as deeply about ensuring that customers are prepared against the inevitable. The combination of cyber posture and cyber recovery will help create a cyber resilient future where organizations can take on any threat, at any stage of the attack.”
