Donald Trump Indicted Again – This Time for Attempting to Undo America’s Democracy

Former President Donald Trump has been indicted on felony charges for a third time in just the past six months. This time Trump has been charged with willfully attempting to interfere with the lawful transfer of power to his successor President Joe Biden, while knowing that he had lost the 2020 election. The new 45 page indictment came just days after another new superseding indictment on obstruction of justice charges was filed in Trump’s trial for illegally keeping classified documents after he left office.

The new charges include, conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of, and attempt to obstruct, an official proceeding, conspiracy against rights, and more.

And this is not all. Reports indicate that at any time Donald Trump could also be indicted in the State of Georgia for his efforts to overturn that state’s legitimate elections results. Such am indictment would be significant because, should he actually win reelection in 2024, Trump could order the dismissal of all the federal charges against him. But a President has no authority over state trials.

Georgia’s Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat is even preparing for the possibility of handling the arrest of Donald Trump, right down to his official booking. “Unless someone tells me differently,” Labat said “normal practices” in arrest procedures will be followed. “We’ll have mug shots ready for you (Trump),” he added.

Until now, Trump supporters argued that he did nothing wrong after the 2020 elections because the former President truly believed the election was stolen. But much evidence has come out that proves Donald Trump knew there was no election fraud and did not care. He also was involved in attempts in several states to illegally replace the legitimately elected slates of electors who make the actual final vote certifying the election results in America’s Electoral College.

Even Donald Trump’s former Vice President Mike Pence, who is himself now a candidate for President in the Republican primaries ahead of the 2024 elections, has finally come out and criticized the former President. Pence had been unwilling, so far, to come right out and acknowledge that Donald Trump had done anything wrong in his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results, let alone say there had been any criminal activity.

Mike Pence, along with almost all of the other republican presidential hopefuls, had been too scared of alienating Trump’s huge base of support. But now that has changed, with Pence saying in a statement, “Today’s indictment serves as an important reminder: anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be President of the United States.”

“Our constitution is more important than any one man’s career,” Mike Pence added. “On January 6th, former President Trump demanded that I choose between him and the Constitution. I chose the Constitution and I always will.”

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, 61, was assigned to preside over the new Trump trial, should it be held. The case was filed in Washington D.C. She is best known for throwing the book at January 6 rioters. She handed out stiff sentences to dozens of the 31 convicted January 6 rioters in her court.

Donald Trump, for his part, continues to try and play the victim here and has even compared the government’s prosecutions of him to Nazi persecutions.

“Why did they wait two and a half years to bring these fake charges, right in the middle of President Trump’s winning campaign for 2024?” Donald Trump said in a statement. “The answer is, election interference! The lawlessness of these persecutions of President Trump and his supporters is reminiscent of Nazi Germany in the 1930s, the former Soviet Union, and other authoritarian, dictatorial regimes.
