Robert Durst Says He has Bladder Cancer as Trial Restarts

It was suspended for a year due to the Covid crisis.

The murder trial of Robert Durst for the killing of his friend Susan Berman will soon resume in Los Angeles. It had been suspended since the start of the Coronavirus epidemic. Durst is charged with shooting Berman in the head at her Beverly Hills home on December 23, 2000, in order to prevent her from implicating him in the disappearance of his first wife, Kathleen McCormack.

The trial is scheduled to begin again on May 17th, but now Durst’s lawyers have filed an emergency motion for a postponement because he has been diagnosed with bladder cancer.

“We are very concerned about his health,” Durst’s attorney Dick DeGuerin told CNN. “He’s really gone down in the last year. He’s been in and out of clinics and hospitals frequently.”

The 78 year old Robert Durst is currently serving a seven year sentence on Federal weapons charges.

The trial had begun in March 2020, but was soon suspended due to the Coronavirus outbreak. It is so complicated that the prosecutor took three days just for his opening statement.

Durst famously confessed to the murders while in a bathroom during the filming of the HBO mini-series about him. Apparently he did not realize that the microphone he was wearing during an interview could still record him speaking during a break.

But Robert Durst said that he was high on methamphetamines while being interviewed for the HBO documentary series about his life, “The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst.” This is part of Durst’s excuse for why he “confessed” to murder during the series.

The final episode of “Jinx” had the most shocking revelation of the series. After an interview, Robert Durst went into the bathroom not knowing that the microphone he was wearing was still on. He was recorded saying, “What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course.”

Hus defense lawyers hope to show that the scene showed on HBO was heavily edited and, therefore, does not constitute any admission of guilt.
