The daughter of former US Ambassador to the UN accuses of Murder

John Negroponte’s daughter was charged in the death of a man she fights in a private home in Maryland. Sophia’s mother: “She has our full support”

Former United States ambassador John Negroponte’s daughter was charged with murdering a man in Maryland.

Sophia Negroponte, 27, was arrested Thursday night and charged with first-degree murder, after stabbing Yousuf Rasmussen,  24, the Montgomery County Police Department said in a statement.

According to police, on Thursday at approximately 11:16 p.m. a homicide was reported on a stabbing in a private home in Rockville, north of Washington DC. Police officers who arrived at the scene found the deceased to suffer numerous wounds. Rasmussen’s death was set that night, and Nangroponte who was caught at the scene was brought to interrogation at the police station.

Police said “Negroponte and Rasmussen were acquaintances and that they were involved in a disagreement. During the disagreement, Rasmussen was injured.”

Negroponte is the adopted daughter of John Negroponte, who was the US ambassador to the United Nations during the term of US President George W. Bush.

Diana, Sofia’s mother, told the Washington Post in an interview: “We love her so much. She tried to live alone and go to college, and she has our full support.” Sofia is one of 5 children adopted by the couple in Honduras, where John Negroponte served as U.S. Ambassador in the 1980s.
