Israel’s first International Summit for Accelerating Cannabis Innovation gets underway today in Tel Aviv,  as investors, researchers and high-tech entrepreneurs from around the world gather to discuss the potential of cannabis in the fields of medicine, science and agriculture.

The summit is part of CannaTech 2016.

Canna Tech was founded last year to provide a platform to enable the identification and incubation of world-class innovative solutions for the cannabis industry.

Professor Raphael Mechoulam, known worldwide as an influential figure in the field of medical cannabis, is chairing the conference.

“Owing to the groundbreaking discoveries of Prof. Raphael Mechoulam, Israel is considered at the fore of medical cannabis research and innovation. To enable further growth within this flourishing industry, the Israel Health Ministry provides a proactive regulatory system that supports patient use and clinical studies in major medical institutions, ” reads a statement about why the conference is being held in Israel.

Topics up for discussion at the two-day event include cannabis industry trends to watch, opportunities in Israel’s cannabis market, medical science development and innovations.

The second day of CannaTech – to be held in Jerusalem — will focus on medical innovation.
