The contributions are seen as a smart marketing move in the increasingly competitive in Manhattan hotel world, as the number of rooms in the city swells to record levels. The 221-room 11 Howard is expected to open in March.

Rosen also recently launched a marketing campaign to raise $30 million for a new high-end eatery that will replace the Four Seasons Restaurant at the Seagram Building. Investors are being promised a cut of future profits at the new restaurant.
