Thousands Apply to Adopt ‘Saddest Dog in the World’

“The Saddest Dog in the World” needs a new nickname.

The 1-year-old Labrador retriever mix, who earned the title after a Facebook photo of her looking down in a kennel went viral, has been placed in a temporary foster home and has received 2, 240 applications for adoption, Canadian nonprofit Rescue Dogs Match said on Facebook.

Lana was rescued by Rescue Dogs Match in Ontario when she was a puppy. She had to compete with 13 other puppies for food and developed behavioral issues as a result, the rescue group said.
