Barbara Walters: Amal Clooney Most Fascinating Person of 2014

The suspense which was clearly killing all of us has finally ended. George Clooney’s new wife Amal (Alamuddin) Clooney was named the most fascinating person of 2014 by Barbara Walters on her ABC special last night.

Walters said of her choice, “This is Amal Alamuddin, George Clooney’s beautiful bride. You could say hers was the wedding of the year. But let’s put it into perspective: It was really one of the greatest achievements in human history. .Amazingly, Amal has been the subject of very little snark or envy. Maybe because we, like George Clooney, find it impossible to resist perfection. Or maybe because it is heartening to think that no matter how long it may take, the perfect someone is out there for everyone. And that, for us, makes her the most fascinating person of 2014.”

This places Mrs. Clooney on a par with past “most fascinating people” Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and J. K. Rowling. Yes Amal (Alamuddin) Clooney has had a successful career in her own right, but would she have even made the list if she hadn’t gotten the renowned ladies’ man Clooney to renege on his pledge never to get married again.

Walters added, “Amal Alamuddin — known now as Amal Clooney — is suddenly in that stratosphere that we reserve for the Jackie O’s or the Princess Di’s or Kate Middleton. That is, everything she does, says or wears is officially fascinating.”

This was the 21st year for the Walters’ special. The iconic television interviewer officially retired earlier this year.

The new Mrs. Clooney came in ahead of writer George R.R. Martin, Elon Musk, Scarlett Johansson, David Koch, Chelsea Handler, Michael Strahan, Oprah Winfrey, Neil Patrick Harris and Taylor Swif twho all made Walters’ list.
