Disney Goes All In with Apps

Movies Anywhere app

Disney is getting into apps in a big way with its Movies Anywhere app now available on Wal-mart’s VUDU online service, according to Deadline Hollywood. Coming soon are other apps for Disney segments, including the popular YouTube character PewDiePie, enhanced apps for ESPN and ABC, user-friendly features for visitors to its theme parks and an app for ImagiCademy, a learning and entertainment service for children.

Disney CEO Bob Iger reminisced about the late CEO of Apple Steve Jobs. Iger asked Jobs in 2005 if he could produce something for movies like the iPod. Jobs approached Iger with a brown bag and said, “I’m way ahead of you fella'” and unveiled a video iPod, which was a far cry from the technology available for watching movies on mobile today, but seemed miraculous at the time.
