JOAN-RIVERS Bad

Joan Rivers certainly knows how to keep her name in the news while she tries to sell copies of her latest book, Diary of a Mad Diva. She just keeps on being controversial.

Her most recent noteworthy event came when she walked out in the middle of an interview with CNN. While being questioned by that news network’s Fredricka Whitfield‘s via satellite, Rivers was angered when Whitfield described her attacks on the clothing that celebrities wear as “mean.”

Rivers responded by saying, “These ladies make $28 million a picture. You think Nicki Minaj cares if I don’t like her dress? It’s not about them, its clothing.”

When asked if there should at least be some boundaries when it comes to offending people, the comedian responded, “Let me tell you. Life is very tough and if you can make a joke to make something easier and funny, do it! Done! Winston Churchill said if you make someone laugh you’ve given him a vacation. Maybe you take the worst thing in the world and make it funny it’s a vacation for a minute.”

When Whitfield inquired about criticisms of Rivers for wearing fur, the comedian went on the defensive and accused the interviewer of only being negative. “You’re not the one to interview on who does humor, ”RIvers said as she walked away cursing. With her microphone still on, but off the air, she continued to complain and even use profanity leading Whitfield to speculate that it was all just a publicity stunt.

Diary of a Mad Diva

In response, Rivers, through her publicist, gave the following statement to The Hollywood Reporter explaining why she stormed off the set:
“I do not do, and never have done, PR ‘stunts. The CNN interviewer was a news reporter and not an entertainment reporter. She did not seem to understand we were talking about a comedy book and not the transcripts from the Nuremburg Trial. Every question was an accusatory one designed to put me on the defensive. She seemed to miss the point that “Diary of a Mad Diva” is simply a very funny book and as Winston Churchill said, if you can make one person laugh, even for a minute, it’s like giving them a little vacation.”

This came just a few days after Rivers made disparaging comments about Michelle Obama after the comedian officiated at a gay wedding. On June 30th, while promoting her book at a Barnes & Nobel store, she was approached by fans Jed Ryan and Joe Aiello who asked her to marry them after they saw in her book that Rivers is an ordained minister.

Rivers is said to be ordained by the Universal Life Church. She once joked that, “every wedding I officiate has a cover charge and a two-drink minimum.”

Afterwards, when a reporter asked her when America would have its first gay president Rivers responded, “We already have it with Obama, so let’s just calm down.” Then, while referring to the American First Lady Michelle Obama, Rivers said, ”You know Michelle is a tranny. A transgender. We all know.”

So far on her promotional tour Rivers has been heckled by animal rights activists for wearing fur and criticized fellow female comedian and E network host Chelsea Handler.

The actress Kristen Stewart has also threatened to sue Rivers over negative comments that the 81 year old comic made about the young actress in her new book.

Born Joan Alexandra Molinsky on June, 8 1933, Joan Rivers is possibly the most Iconic female American standup comedian of all time.

She is now best known for her program on the E entertainment cable channel, The Fashion Police, where, together with her daughter Melissa, Rivers critiques the attire of celebrities. Rivers is also the author of several bestselling books.
