Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. will unveil its Iron Beam laser air-defense system at next month’s Singapore Air Show. Iron Beam is a high-energy laser based system against rockets, mortar, and airborne target attacks. The system name , come from the highly successful “Iron Dome” anti-rocket system, will engage projectiles whose trajectory is too small to be efficiently engaged by the Iron Dome missiles. Both systems are produced by state-owned Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. Iron Beam will complement the battle proven Iron Dome short-range rocket defense system by assisting in intercepting very-short-range rockets fired at Israel. “Israel Defense” reports that this will add an extra dimension to Israel’s missile defense program with Iron Beam (very short-range), Iron Dome (short-range), David’s Sling (medium-range), and the Arrow 2 and Arrow 3 (long-range).
