Hollywood in Vienna is an annual film music gala, taking place, aptly enough, in the Vienna Concert Hall (Wiener Konzerthaus), where the Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award is presented. Each year, one of the world’s most renowned film composers is honored for his or her work, which is then performed by the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra.
That has to feel good.

This year, Randy Newman, one of the greatest popular musical geniuses is being awarded, at the Sept. 24-25 event, and we can’t be happy enough for him.
Sandra Tomek, founder and director of Hollywood in Vienna, told Variety: “Alfred Newman, David’s father, was a colleague of Max Steiner, and, also, the Newman family came from Eastern Europe (Russia). So there are a lot of ties which are really interesting.”
Randy’s cousin, also a film composer, David Newman, will be conducting the 110-musician orchestra and 60-member choir.
Not bad, for the city that gave the world the quartet…
“The stage is really packed, ” Tomek said excitedly.
Newman’s Oscar-winning work on “Toy Story 3” and “Monsters, Inc.” will be part of this year’s program, as well as the music from “The Natural, ” “Ragtime, ” “Seabiscuit” and “Avalon, ” with Newman doing some of the vocals.
Delicious.
