The Miss Universe pageant may have survived years of ownership by bumbling failed businessman Donald Trump, but it may not have been able to survive the inclusion of transgender contestants. This is one reason many people are pointing to as an explanation for why the contest was forced to declare bankruptcy.
This year’s competition will have two transgender contestants, Miss Portugal and Miss Netherlands.
JKN Global Group, the company that currently owns the Miss Universe pageant, filed for bankruptcy. It purchased the contest from Donald Trump in 2022 for a measly $20 million. Trump was forced to sell out because no one would broadcast the show after he made racist comments. The firm is owned by Thai transgender businesswoman Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip and it also owns the Miss USA, and Miss Teen USA beauty pageants.

“Submitting the rehabilitation petition will effectively solve the Company’s liquidity problem under legal mechanism and provide fair protection to all stakeholders,” added JKN Global Group. “In addition, the Company can continue its operation while being under the rehabilitation plan which is a sustainable solution to the problem and to create profits in the future.”
But maybe transgender competitors have nothing to do with the problem. Perhaps people are just tired of beauty pageants, which, let’s face it, are sexist and really have no point anymore. With social media and women becoming millionaires for just prancing around half-naked in pictures and videos, who needs beauty pageants?
The Miss Universe pageant was held in Israel, in Eilat, just two years ago. Miss India Harnaaz Sandhu was the winner that year.
