If you want to lose a few inches around the waist then you should be more concerned with what time of day you eat than with what you eat. Abdominal obesity, also known as central obesity or truncal obesity, is a condition where there is an excessive amount of fat stored around the belly. This type of fat is different from the fat that accumulates under the skin (subcutaneous fat). Visceral fat, the fat that builds up around the organs in the abdomen, is linked to a number of health problems.

The Cleveland Clinic explains that visceral fat is belly fat found deep within your abdominal cavity. It surrounds important organs, including your stomach, liver and intestines. It’s different than subcutaneous fat, which is fat just below your skin. Visceral fat is actually more dangerous to your health. Diet and exercise are the best ways to prevent the buildup of visceral fat.

Waist circumference is the most common way to measure abdominal obesity. A waist circumference of more than 40 inches for men and more than 35 inches for women is considered to be abdominal obesity.

Waist-to-hip ratio is calculated by dividing your waist circumference by your hip circumference. A ratio of more than 0.9 for men and more than 0.85 for women is considered to be abdominal obesity.

And we all need to lose a little bit around the waist. But we try and we try and never seem to succeed with this goal.

So, what can we do about this?

Well, Dr. Naheed Ali told GBN it’s all about when you eat and how you structure your day.

A person should begin their day at 6 AM and wind down by 10 PM because this, she explained, “aligns with the body’s natural circadian rhythms.”

“Dinner, on the other hand, should be consumed at least two to three hours before bedtime,” she asserted.

This would come around 7pm, “to ensure that the body has ample time to digest the meal before the metabolic rate slows down during sleep.”

Dr. Naheed Ali said that, “This schedule supports insulin sensitivity and helps manage hunger hormones throughout the day, thereby aiding in the reduction of belly fat.”
