Israel’s Codefresh Bought by Australia’s Octopus Deploy

Codefresh

Codefresh team

Israeli startup Codefresh, an Argo maintainer and leader in Kubernetes CD, GitOps, and CI, has been acquired by Octopus Deploy, an Australian firm that offers a user-friendly release management, deployment automation and DevOps solution. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Israel’s Calcalist reported that it could be worth as much as $50 million.

So, the Americans and Europeans are not the only ones buying out or investing in Israel Startup Nation.

Codefresh has raised a total of $54 million in capital to date. While that is more than the reported sale price, since the terms of the buyout have not yet been revealed there is no way to know exactly how much of Codefresh Octopus Deploy acquired. So, this is still some needed good news for Israel Startup Nation as the country continues to deal with the aftermath of the October 7 massacre and the ongoing war against Hamas terrorists in Gaza.

Argo, a suite of open-source tools for continuous delivery with Kubernetes, does not have a single individual maintainer. Instead, it’s maintained by a collaborative effort involving Codefresh and individual contributors.

While not a single tool, Argo projects complement each other and are often used together to manage the entire lifecycle of cloud-native applications on Kubernetes, from development and testing to deployment and ongoing operations.

Founded in 2014 by Oleg Verhovsky, Dan Garfield and Raziel Tabib, Codefresh calls itself the next-generation CI/CD for modern applications. We help you automate from code to cloud with lightning-fast builds and Canary and Blue/Green GitOps deployments. DevOps teams from GoodRx, Monday.com, Deloitte, and more depend on Codefresh to build and deploy their software in a safe and scalable manner.

Kubernetes, often abbreviated as K8s, is an open-source system for automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications. Developed by Google and now maintained by a large community, it’s become a popular choice for running and managing cloud-native applications across various environments.

As an active contributor and maintainer of Argo, Codefresh is the trusted platform for enterprises running Argo and scaling and deploying to Kubernetes. Octopus and Codefresh offer unparalleled benefits for software teams, including advanced CD, deployment automation, release orchestration, environment progression, observability, and enterprise compliance across all workloads.

Paul and Sonia Stovell founded Octopus Deploy in 2012 with the aim to be the “category-defining solution” for deployment and operations automation.

By integrating Codefresh’s expertise and technology, Octopus Deploy says that it now provides the industry’s “most comprehensive Continuous Delivery solution for organizations operating at scale. The seamless integration of powerful CD, CI, and GitOps capabilities in a single platform addresses the long-standing challenge faced by enterprises seeking a unified solution for their CD pipelines.”

“We’re adding Codefresh’s considerable technology to empower software teams to deploy freely,” says Paul Stovell, founder and CEO of Octopus Deploy, added:. It represents a big investment in open source and the Argo project that Codefresh maintains and scales with its enterprise offering.”

“We are eager to bring the power of Codefresh’s Continuous Integration and cloud-native GitOps – based on Argo – to Octopus Deploy,” said Raziel Tabib, founder and CEO of Codefresh. “With Codefresh and Octopus, we will elevate the capabilities available to software teams and drive innovation in Continuous Delivery.”
