British pop star Robbie Williams is in Israel where he will perform a concert Thursday night in Tel Aviv’s Yarkon Park as part of his worldwide “25 Years of Hits” tour. He was certainly not deterred by the boycott Israel campaign led by his fellow British rocker, the Israel hating Roger Waters, whose former bandmate called him an anti-Semite. This is Williams’ first visit to the country since 2015 and apparently, he is very much the Israelophile.

“I was incredibly excited to get here, and much like last time, incredibly excited to be here and experience what Israel actually is and what the people actually are,” Robbie Williams told reporters while speaking at a press conference held at the Tel Aviv’s Sheraton Hotel.

On his welcome to Israel Robbie Williams said, “Normally, I can tell a lot from a place from the entrance in the airport. You get a feel. Big smiles. Welcoming. Kindness. There’s a lot of gratitude in people’s eyes, just from that little bit.

On being in Israel for the first time in eight years Robbie Williams said, “I woke up in a really good mood today, and I woke up excited and I woke up being excited about being here, but also about the prospect of what this show could be. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Robbie Williams went on to say that Israel is a “special place that deserves a special thing to happen, probably more than gigs I do in any other places.”

After getting off to a great start as part of the hit pop group “Take That” in the early 1990s, Robbie Williams went on to a highly successful solo career. The now 49 year old Williams had his big break out on his own with the release of his huge hit album “Life thru a Lens” in 1997. That album took a while to get noticed, but sales skyrocketed after the release of the hit single “Angels.”

Then came the “Life thru a Lens” album that was released in 1998 and the rest is history.

Robbie Williams spoke philosophically about his success since he first went solo telling Israeli reporters saying, “Twenty-five years ago, it was one day at a time, and to sit here, one year away from being 50, I just feel incredibly blessed and lucky I get to do the job I do. It’s incredibly warming that people want to see me.”
