Scarlett Johansson is done playing the Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actress said so while also talking about her first husband the actor Ryan Reynolds for the first time in years. The Oscar-nominated actress spoke about the subject when interviewed by Oscar winning actress and fellow Marvel movies star Gwyneth Paltrow on Paltrow’s “The Goop” podcast.

After Paltrow said about the actor, “We love a good Ryan Reynolds in our home,” Scarlett Johansson said of Ryan Reynolds, “He’s a good guy!”

Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds were married for about three years, from 2008 to 2011. She was only 23 when they married. She is now 38.

In explaining why the marriage failed, Scarlett Johansson said, “I didn’t know what I wanted or needed from somebody else. I never realized, ‘Oh, it’s really important for me—I need to be with a compassionate person. That’s a fundamental characteristic that has to be there.”

And Scarlett Johansson also spoke about stories that the two did not get along when they filmed their Marvel movies together.

“Is that a rumor?” Johansson said after Paltrow told her that people say this to her. “You were so nice to me on that movie. I was so petrified. You were so nice to me! You could’ve been awful. I was so out of my comfort zone on that movie. I’d never done anything like that before. Plus, you had established such deep friendships.”

As for filming a movie in the male-dominated Marvel Cinematic Universe, Gwyneth Paltrow said, “I was so happy to have another woman around.”

“You kept telling me that,” answered Scarlett Johansson. “Then I experienced that later on. When I did ‘Avengers’ I was one of the few [women]… it was like a big sausage party.”

On her future as the super-heroine Black Widow, Scarlett Johansson said, “I’m done. Chapter is over. I did all that I had to do. Also coming back and playing a character again and again, over a decade of time, is such a unique experience.”

Scarlett Johansson has a new movie coming out directed by none other than Wes Anderson called “Asteroid City.” The movie sees the two-time Oscar nominee join a “madcap” cast of famous actors like Tom Hanks and Margot Robbie in yet another bizarre installment from the world of Wes Anderson whose delightful films over the years included “Isle of Dogs,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel” and “Rushmore.”
