Mahindra Racing, a British-Indian international motor racing team based in Banbury, United Kingdom, has selected the Israeli company Sygnia, an incident response and cyber security consulting company that protects organizations worldwide, as its global cybersecurity partner. It really comes as little – actually basically no – surprise that an Israeli firm got an international cyber security contract.

Israeli cyber security companies have been at the forefront of the field for decades. One of Israel Startup Nation’s biggest and earliest successes, Check Point Technologies, is a cyber security company. And most of the new security firms dotting Startup Nation these days boast people who came out of one of the IDF’s top high tech defense units.

Sygnia is a Team8 and Temasek company, part of the ISTARI Collective. Sygnia provides incident response and cyber security consulting services, helping organizations worldwide to quickly contain and remediate attacks and proactively enhance their cyber resilience. The proven track record, commitment, and discretion have earned Sygnia the trust of security teams, senior executives, and management boards at leading organizations worldwide including many of the Fortune 500 companies.

And just six months ago, Amir Becker, the former head of the vaunted IDF 8200 cyber security unit, joined Sygnia as its Vice President of Incident Response.

Mahindra Racing is a founding team – and the only Indian team – to compete in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the world’s first all-electric street racing series. Mahindra Racing has an impressive stats sheet and is a multi-race winning outfit after scoring its breakthrough victory at the Berlin E-Prix in 2017. The squad is committed not only to pushing the limits of technology and innovation in the electric vehicle space, but to addressing the impact of climate change; it was the first Formula E team to be awarded the FIA Environmental Accreditation Three-Star rating and is the only team to be certified Net Zero Carbon footprint, demonstrating best practice and excellence in sustainability practices.

Mahindra Racing said that Sygnia’s team of experts will enable the team to further build its cyber resilience and “stay ahead of threats, leveraging its operational technology (OT) and IoT expertise, as well as standard and non-standard protocols and infrastructure capabilities.”

At the highest level of motorsport, protecting ground-breaking race car technology from cyber-attack is a modern day essential, explains Mahindra Racing. On street circuits around the world, India’s leading car manufacturer Mahindra pushes EV technology to its limits with a team of leading engineers, technicians and drivers, all aiming to change the way humanity approaches mobility.

With intelligence security required at up to 280 kph, Mahindra’s race-winning FIA Formula E team needed an official cyber security partner that takes a tailored and proactive approach to defense. Mahindra was impressed with Sygnia’s extensive experience and industry-leading expertise earning the trust of leading organizations worldwide, including many of the Fortune 500 companies.

According to Ram Elboim, CEO of Sygnia, “We are proud to partner with Mahindra Racing and bring our depth of cyber security experience to enhance their existing measures and maximize their cyber resilience. Mahindra Racing and Sygnia share a drive to push innovation and a dedication to creating a sustainable future and a safer world.”

Dilbagh Gill, CEO & Team Principal of Mahindra Racing, said, “At Mahindra we pride ourselves on pushing forward the EV technology that will create a better future for us all. In order to protect ourselves from cyber-attack and to improve our cyber resilience, we looked for a security partner with a proven track record. Sygnia will assess, stress test and build our ability to detect, prevent and defeat attacks while cutting through any complexities and without adding additional burden to our hard-working team.”

The Sygnia branding can be seen on both all-electric Mahindra M8Electro Formula E race cars throughout the 2022 FIA Formula E season. Professional racing drivers Alexander Sims (GBR) and Oliver Rowland (GBR) will battle for victories on street circuits in iconic locations such as Monaco, Jakarta, Vancouver and London.
