Harvey Weinstein Secretly Indicted On More Rape Charges in LA

He is already a convicted rapist.

Disgraced former Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein was indicted on even more rape charges on Sunday. The indictment proceeding were held in secret in Los Angeles.

According to Fox News, Weinstein was indicted by the grand jury several weeks ago, but the indictment itself was only revealed yesterday, Sunday. Apparently the delay had to do with Harvey Weinstein’s continued efforts to fight extradition from New York State to California.

Harvey Weinstein is currently serving a prison sentence in New York where he was convicted on February 24, 2020 on 2 of five counts charged, criminal sexual assault in the first degree and one count of rape in the third degree. On March 11 he was sentenced to 23 years in prison. While currently serving that sentence, Weinstein can still be charged and tried in another jurisdiction even in jail.

Last October the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office revealed the six new charges against Weinstein including three counts of forcible rape and three counts of forcible oral copulation. If convicted in Los Angeles, Harvey Weinstein could be sent to jail there to serve whatever sentence immediately after he gets out of jail in New York. That is if he ever does get out of jail.

Weinstein’s spokesman, Juda Engelmayer, told CNN at the time that, “Harvey Weinstein has always maintained that every one of his physical encounters throughout his entire life have been consensual. That hasn’t changed.”

The specifics of the new indictment have not yet been revealed, but are expected to be announced once Mr. Weinstein’s extradition hearing is completed in New York. As of now, Weisntein stands charged in the State of California with 11 counts of rape and sexual battery based on the accusations of five women. If convicted on all counts he could be sentenced to up to 140 years to life in prison.

Whatever happens in California, Weinstein still ha decades left to serve in jail.
