NewRocket develops advanced, environmentally friendly (“Green Propulsion”) rocket engines. Yes it is true: Green Tech has now reached even as far as rocket science. The company has already signed $6 million in new contracts.

Startup Nation yet again leads the world in the development of new green technologies to help fight climate change. It seems like we make that statement at least once a week. We do because it is so true.

From waste turned to raw materials for use in production, to biodegradable alternatives to plastics, and new types of meat alternatives, Israel is leading the world in changing the world.

A little over a year ago, NASA began testing rocket fuel based on green tech for the first time as part of its Green Propellant Infusion Mission (GPIM) program . NASA experimented with a non-toxic, rosé-colored liquid which it said could fuel the future in space and propel missions to the Moon or other worlds.

GPIM demonstrates an alternative to conventional chemical propulsion systems for future spacecraft. The small satellite technology demonstration mission seeks to improve overall propellant efficiency. GPIM also strives to optimize performance of new hardware, systems and power solutions while ensuring the best value for investment an

Founded in 2014, NewRocket’s tech is based on an innovative gel-propellant technology. NewRocket boasts that it is developing proprietary gel technology enabling a stable and non-toxic engine propellant, without sacrificing performance and control.

The company explains that conventional rocket engine technology in either solid or liquid form has many risks, including high toxicity, transportation challenges and produces rockets that are difficult to control or extinguish. NewRocket’s gel propulsion technology is designed to meet the strictest industry regulations. The company has successfully completed a proof of concept for the proprietary technology and identified key applications for the aviation, space and power generation markets.

NewRocket is associated with the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, one of the world’s top universities for science and technology research. The company has acquired seed investment from Incubit Technology Ventures, which is owned and backed by Elbit Systems Ltd.

So basically this is about a future where rocket fuels are not so toxic, do not pollute the atmosphere nearly as much and are also much safer.

“The investment will serve NewRocket in executing its growth strategy, accelerating engine development as we bring our propulsion solutions into the global aerospace market”, said Ilan Harel, NewRocket’s CEO. “As NewSpace companies launch constellations of thousands of satellites, while space debris is accumulating, NewRocket propulsion solutions will allow for more efficient satellite orbital deployment and de-orbiting.”

NewRocket was founded by Zohar Schlagman and Moti Elyashiv at Incubit Ventures, an incubator owned and backed by Elbit Systems and supported by the Israel Innovation Authority (IIA). Incubit Ventures invests in early-stage, deep-tech startups with groundbreaking and disruptive technologies.
The technology used by NewRocket is based on technology developed by Prof Benny Natan from the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, which was licensed to the company.
