World’s Largest Beer Company AB InBev Sets Up Cyber division in Tel Aviv

The company of Stella Artois, Becks, Budweiser, Corona, and Hoegaarden has begun operating in Tel Aviv after purchasing Israeli startup Weissbeerger a year ago for $80 million.

The world’s largest beer manufacturer, Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV, is setting up a cyber division in Israel called The Beer Tech. The hub will initially focus on the global information security needs in all the company’s regions in which it operates. But the company intends to expand operations in the future to domains including foodtech, agtech, and industry 4.0.

AB InBev has begun recruiting senior cyber personnel to be employed at a technology center it operates in its ​​1,200 square meters offices, at the Sonol Tower in Tel Aviv.

Based in Leuven, Belgium, AB InBev provides 25% of all beer consumed globally and has about 500 beer brands worldwide including Stella Artois, Leffe, Becks, Budweiser, Corona, Hoegaarden and more. The company employs over 100,000 people worldwide and reported revenues of almost $55 billion for 2018.

The company has begun operating in Tel Aviv after purchasing Weissbeerger a year ago for $80 million. The Israeli startup developed a platform that enables the analysis of the consumption of all food and beverage products purchased at points of sale. This is done by connecting beer taps to the Internet and collecting data from the cash register. The consumption data is analyzed in real-time and the platform enables the adoption of customized application recommendations for the business, which leads to increased efficiency and increased sales.

As a result of the acquisition, Weissberger became the development center of the Israeli brewer. In addition to the establishment of the cyber division, AB InBev is also recruiting 30 additional employees to Weissberger in Data Scientist, Analytics, SW and QA. Weissberger currently employs 120 people, 100 of them in Israel, and the rest are distributed at the company’s offices in Australia, Argentina, Canada, and Korea.

With offices in the US and UK, WeissBeerger operates in North and South America, Europe and Asia including Israel. The company’s offices in the US and UK, but the headquarters and development center are in Tel Aviv.
