Banksy explains in a new video: That’s how I destroyed a work worth $1.4 million

In a video posted by Banksy he displays the shredder he planted in the painting and explained: “A few years ago I secretly built a crusher in a painting, and I did it in case it was put up for auction.”

The mysterious graffiti artist, Banksy, published a video in his Instagram account showing the shredder he secretly placed in the “Girl with a Balloon” that was destroyed on the weekend – moments after it was auctioned for a fortune ($1.4 million).

Immediately after that, we see in the video the process of pricing the painting – and then the painting that was slowly being dragged down, in front of the auctioneer’s astonished eyes at the Sotheby’s in London auction and the crowd gathered there.

Banksy signed the post with a quote from Picasso, which he added as a caption under the video: “The urge to destroy is also a creative impulse.”
