When you click on a website, it’s hard to imagine that this digital manifestation actually has a physical home – a building with a surprisingly large staff employed to manage its operation.

In case you’ve been orbiting Earth for the past few years, Airbnb is a site that allows people to offer space in their home (or often their entire home) to paying guests; for those guests it offers the chance to find somewhere cheap and interesting to stay.

Like most things digital, it began life in California and its head office (a former Eveready battery factory) is in a fashionable district of San Francisco…
