Bernie Sanders Wants To Be The Liberal Left’s Knight In Shining Armor In The Donald Trump Era

Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders in Concord, New Hampshire, after his primary victory.

Bernie Sanders sure does want to be the leader of America’s liberal left. He has been hitting all the talk shows and tweeting away to defend the liberal Democratic platform in the weeks since Donald Trump was elected President.

The Vermont Senator, however, is not really a Democrat. He is a Socialist who was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as one. Sanders was then twice elected to the U.S. Senate as an independent. And while he caucuses with the Democrats, has taken a leadership role in the Senate minority and even ran for President in the Democratic primaries, Bernie Sanders is still a Socialist.

But Socialist or not, Senator Sanders is actively working to help Keith Ellison become the next chair of the Democratic National Committee. He voiced his support for Ellison while speaking with Dana Bash on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday.

On that program Bernie Sanders also called for an end to the Electoral College.

“We have one candidate who got 2 million more votes than the other candidate, and she’s not going to be sworn in as president. On the surface, that’s a little bit weird, ” said the Senator.

“The second thing that bothers me is that as everybody knows that during the campaign we have states, California, New York, and many others that are traditionally Democratic. You have a whole lot of states that are traditionally Republican. The needs and the people of those states are ignored during the political process. And then what ends up happening is the campaign is about basically 16, 17 battleground states in this country. And I think that’s unfair to the other 30-plus states that would like to be a part of the political process.”

Bernie Sanders has also been continuing his fight against the outsourcing of jobs abroad and the growing inequality between the rich and poor in America.

The loss of American jobs abroad is actually one area where both the Sanders and Trump Presidential campaigns were in agreement. Now Mr. Sanders is vowing to make sure that Donald Trump keeps his promises to bring jobs back to America. To that end he is promoting the Outsourcing Prevention Act which the Senator says will combine tax breaks and fines to get companies to return all sorts of jobs like the ones in call centers to the U.S. from countries like India.

Many Democrats may be pleased to see Bernie Sanders take on the role of the voice of the opposition to President Donald Trump. But he is still a Socialist and the Republicans have been very good at using that as a slur to belittle the policies of America’s left. That being the case, the Democratic Party may wish to find someone other than Senator Sanders to be the face of their opposition during the next four years.
