‘Hail, Caesar!’ Star Alden Ehrenreich Frontrunner to Star as Young Han Solo

After months of speculation we may have a frontrunner for the role of young Han Solo in Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Star Wars prequel / spinoff.

Potential names has thrown but screen tests had narrowed the field down to a few options, such as Taron Egerton, Alden Ehrenreich and Jack Reynor.

Deadline reports that following a series of screen tests the charming breakout star of the Coen brothers’ Hail, Caesar! Alden Ehrenreich, has emerged as the clear favorite for the iconic Star Wars role originated by Harrison Ford.

The 26 year old’s relatively fresh name actually fits the bill for LucasFilm. They had been looking for someone with not too much history, and casting relatively new face would follow their model for all of the franchise’s main leads.

Lawrence Kasdan scripted the film. The Han Solo project will be directed by The Lego Movie’s directing team of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Little else is known about the film, which is scheduled for a May 25, 2018 release.

Ehrenreich appears next in Warren Beatty’s untitled Howard Hughes biopic, which stars Beatty as the aging entrepreneur / filmmaker and is eyeing an awards season release later this year.

Alden Ehrenreich was born in Los Angeles, California, the son of Sari Newmann, an interior designer, and Mark Ehrenreich. He is from a Jewish family (fromAustria, Hungary, Russia, and Poland), and was raised in Reconstructionist Judaism.(Wikipedia)
