The World’s Top 10 Busiest Airports

Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International (2)

Beijing was expected to overtake Atlanta as the world’s busiest airport by 2015 but that has not materialized due to a Chinese slowdown and the capacity restraint at the capital’s airport. Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International is still the world’s busiest airport, handling 101.5 million passengers last year, according to ACI. It benefits tremendously from its strategic location as a major U.S. port of entry and connecting hub. The airport in Atlanta is within a 2-hour flight of 80 percent of the U.S. population. Dubai was the world’s busiest airport for international passengers and it came third in terms of overall passengers.

This chart shows total passenger traffic at airports worldwide in 2015
