What Obama must tell Netanyahu

President Obama Meets With Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu At The White House

On Monday, Prime Minister Netanyahu begins a three-day visit to the United States including a meeting with President Obama.

The trip provides an important opportunity for the Prime Minister to heal some of the damage he caused to the US-Israel relationship in his effort to defeat the Iran nuclear deal.

The White House meeting also affords the President a chance to reaffirm that the strength of the US-Israel relationship is rooted in our shared national interests and democratic values.

Urge President Obama to deliver a strong message about the importance of pursuing a two-state solution and of defending Israel’s democracy. Add your name–and your message–now.

President Obama’s message to the Prime Minister should be:

In a time of insecurity, the people of Israel should know that their friends in America condemn terror and mourn for the victims of the violence.

Ultimately, the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians cannot simply be managed, it must be resolved, and Israel’s future as the democratic homeland of the Jewish people secured, through a two-state solution.

Racism and incitement from both Palestinian and Israeli officials is unacceptable and must stop.

Israel’s commitment to democracy must be maintained and affirmed, and the Prime Minister should work to block legislative proposals that restrict free speech and political expression.

Even as a comprehensive resolution appears momentarily out of reach, Israel can and should take every step it can to make an eventual resolution of the conflict more likely.

We know that, like us, President Obama cares deeply about Israel’s future and security. That’s why it’s so important he make clear that, not only is the status quo dangerous and unacceptable, but that government actions which undermine the two-state solution hurt Israel’s special relationship with the United States.

To protect Israel’s future, President Obama needs to take this opportunity to speak out clearly.
