Leonard played the iconic Spock character across TV and film over the course of five decades. Sadly, he passed away from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at 83-years-old on Feb. 27, 2015.

In a touching video tribute, the cast of Star Trek Beyond remembered their captain’s contributions to the world, while encouraging fans to support a cause that he himself championed.

“Leonard was an actor, a champion of the arts and a true inspiration to so many, ” said Zachary, who plays Spock in Star Trek Beyond.

“Through his legendary portrayal of Spock, he influenced countless scientists and artists, myself and the rest of the cast included. It was an honor and a privilege to know him and to call him a friend. Leonard’s love for the human spirit shone through everything he did. He touched lives around the world and he is greatly missed.”

Omaze campaign, has been helping to raise money for nine different charities chosen by the film’s stars for the last several months.

Among the charities listed is the St. Jude’s Children Hospital, which Leonard supported throughout his lifetime.

Star Trek Beyond will beam into cinemas in 2016 to mark the 50th anniversary of the beloved sci-fi series.
