Only a year after starting operations in Turkey, the car sharing app Uber is launching its own bridge over the Bosphorous, linking Europe to Asia, with UberBOAT!

Uber has partnered with a sea transport company, Navette from Istanbul, which operates speed boats with passenger capacities suitable for six to eight people.

UberBOAT becomes available on Uber’s smartphone app when you standing near the shore of Istanbul’s central waterway, using its geo-location features. If there is an eavailable boat nearby, set your pick up location and request your own UberBOAT.

The “Captain” will call you to confirm your ride and a speed boat will embark shortly to find you.

UberBOAT fares are based on distance (sea miles) and time and will be automatically charged on your credit card at the end of a trip. Fares will start at 50 Turkish liras or about US$19.

A trip from the Ciragan Hotel, a converted Ottoman palace, to the closest part of the coastline to Istanbul’s main airport will cost around 400 liras, or US$150.
