Bernie Sanders Wows Potential Hollywood donors

“Our campaign is catching fire. It’s for one simple reason: We are telling the truth. And I think that’s what the American people want to hear.”

Bernie Sanders

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is making a push among a group of donors traditionally known for being supporters of the Clintons. Hollywood bigwigs. The Presidential candidate met with members of the entertainment industry at two separate events on Saturday: one at actress Mimi Kennedy’s Van Nuys home in the morning and the other at Betty and Stanley Sheinbaum’s Brentwood mansion in the afternoon.

Former California state Senator Tom Hayden — who was once married to Jane Fonda — introduced Senator Sanders at the Van Nuys event. He said, “I’m here with my wife and my friends because we believe Bernie is providing us with the opportunity to have a voice and a role in the Democratic process at a time when progressives are on the rise.”

“Bernie has launched a very critical campaign in several states, ” Haden added. “He’s actually doing well in the early polls. He has an opportunity to change the conversation in the country. He has an opportunity to be an effective debater (against Clinton) in the primaries. He has an opportunity to attract Libertarians and Republicans, as well as Democrats and Socialists. It always was a motley crew — the progressive coalition.”

Sanders told the people gathered there, “Our campaign is catching fire. It’s for one simple reason: We are telling the truth. And I think that’s what the American people want to hear. The truth may not be necessarily pleasant, but we can’t go forward unless we have the courage to take a hard look at where we are today. And where we are today is not in a good place.”

At the other event the Vermont Senator repeated his main campaign line saying, “In this country, when we stand together there are extraordinary things we can do, ” he said.

“We can provide health care to all of our people. We can create decent paying jobs for all of our people. We can lead the world in terms of combating climate change. We can end racism and sexism and homophobia in the United States. We can end the disgrace of having the highest rate of childhood poverty. All of that is possible. This is not a poor country. This is a rich country. So work with me please in bringing about this political revolution.”

Unfortunately for Sanders, these were not exactly people with deep pockets and in today’s America no one can get very far in a Presidential election without raising at least $100 million. Hillary Clinton, however, has already wrapped up the support of the Hollywood moguls like Jeffrey Katzenberg and Steven Spielberg.

After the Los Angeles events, Sanders went off to Denver where he spoke to a crowd of 5, 500 hundred in a local gymnasium. Again, the Senator spoke to a small but supportive crowd. And again, while he may hurt Hillary Clinton by embarrassing her in some states, Sanders does not really have much of a chance of actually winning the Democratic part’s nomination for President.
