Robert Maxwell’s daughter Ghislaine, Accused of Pimping Underage Girls to Prince Andrew, sells her townhouse for $19 million

Perhaps the sale is just reaping the fruits of a successful investment, or perhaps she is forced to flee from scandal yet again.

Ghislaine Maxwell, British born media heiress and woman accused of being the madam who facilitated Jeffrey Epstein’s underage sex exploits, including allegedly pimping out teenage girls to Prince Andrew, is selling her Upper East Side townhouse for $19 million, according to the Daily News.

While Ghislaine Maxwell has denied having any involvement in Jeffrey Epstein’s underage sex offenses, the two were romantically involved in the past and have remained friends. Along with Epstein’s other “friends” such as Prince Andrew and Bill Clinton, she may well be treated with suspicion, although  the notion that the New York socialite is selling her lavish townouse to retreat once again from scandal is mere speculation. She left the U.K in 1991. for America shortly after her father, Robert Maxwell’s, body was found off the Canary Islands after venturing close to his yacht, Lady Ghislaine, named after the youngest of his nine children. Ghislaine has maintained that there was foul play involved in her father’s death, and it was not an accident or a suicide. Robert Maxwell was founder of Pergamon Press and owner of the Mirror Group of newspapers, whose pension fund was found to have been used to bankroll his lavish lifestyle. Following Maxwell’s death, other funds were found to have been misappropriated, and scandal as well as debt brought down the family media dynasty.

He married Elisabeth Maynard, a Protestant who bore him 9 children, and fulfilled his vision of “recreating the family he lost in the Holocaust, ” as he told the New York Times.

Ghislaine Maxwell was described by Vanity Fair’s Vicky Ward in a 2011 article as “Always the most interesting, the most vivacious and the most unusual person in any room … she is as passionate as she is knowledgeable. Here rolodex could blow away almost anyone else’s I can think of —even Rupert Murdoch’s.” Perhaps her rolodex didn’t contain the contact information of underage prostitutes and their high-profile johns, but she has been identified as the “madam” in Epstein’s illegal Palm Beach activities, or so maintains Virginia Roberts, who alleges the convicted pedophile forced her, while she was still a minor, to have sex with Prince Andrew, with Maxwell facilitating matters. Although a Florida judge threw out a large part of Roberts’ case, the association with scandal is something Maxwell is faced with yet again.

Maxwell may not be dodging the New York social spotlight, but simply may want to cash in on the substantial return she made from the 12 room Beau Arts townhouse between Park and Lexington with 1, 000 square feet of air rights. She purchased the 65th street property for $4.95 million in 2000 and may sell it for $19 million. Perhaps the sale is just reaping the fruits of a successful investment, or perhaps she is forced to flee from scandal yet again.
