While in Israel, Gere will spend some of his time pushing peace between Arabs and Jews. and will meet tomorrow (Sunday) with former president Shimon Peres, at the Peres Peace Center.

Gere asked to meet with Peres and to closely monitor the center’s activities bringing together Jews and Arabs. During his visit he will meet with mixed Arab and Jewish youth soccer teams, and with boys and girls who take part in the “Young Ambassadors for Peace.”

A press release by the former president said that Richard Gere is a close friend of Peres and a strong supporter of the “Peres Center for Peace” since its founding in 1996. Last time Gere was in Israel, in 2003, he also met with the center’s children to encourage activities for peace.
